Hi,

my Octave version is rather old (2.1.40), a newer one (2.1.67) does not
compile because, amongst other problems, a missing Fortran compiler.

Does anyone happen to know, where I can obtain a newer version as a
binary rpm, so that I can install it without compiliation?

Thanks

Detlef

Well the latest 2.1.x release is 2.1.73 and the latest recommended
release is 2.9.13 so perhaps 2.1.67 is not what you should install either.

Why Redhat 9? It was released in 2003. I think you seriously need to
consider upgrading. Perhaps Fedora 7 might be an appropriate release for
you. And is a good option as there is an active packager of Octave under
Fedora..

Otherwise just install a fortran compiler for redhat and be done with
it. Pbone points me to the RPM at

http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/2407056/com/gcc-g77-3.2.2-5.i386.rpm.html

for g77. If RH9 can use YUM, use that to easily install the compiler and
all its dependencies at once..
